Shopping Secrets
The key to saving money while shopping, is to keep in mind the two golden rules of shopping:
1) If it's too good to be true there is a good chance that it is
2) "A Deal" is only "A Deal" if you can use it
1) Keep in mind that because a store says you are getting a deal does not mean that the store is giving you a good deal. Large discount stores such as
Sam's Club, Wal Mart, and K-Mart play on the public belief that if you buy something at that store it will be less expensive. Keep in mind that stores are much like "Car Dealers" they are in business to make money, not loose money, and it would be unreasonable to expect them to spend the time needed to research all the competitors to be sure their deal is the best. It's your job as a consumer to perform that research. That's why so many stores offer and honor low price guarantees to show they have the lowest prices no matter what. The best way to be sure you are getting a deal is if you are able to buy the exact same product for less money. For example I know of a consumer who found the exact same VCR (Features, Benefits, Brand) at Wal Mart for $25 less than Sam's Club offered the comparable product. They are both the same company, but because the public at large is trained to believe Sam's
Club is always less expensive, the price must be the best one available.
2) If you buy, or stock up on products because they are on sale, it may not be to your benefit. If the product is going to expire, or you are not sure you will use the product within 30 days, you probably shouldn't mess with it. The reason for this is that you can not be sure exactly what your tastes or needs are after 30 days. Have you ever needed to throw away frozen meat, vegetables, or other perishable foods because they were freezer burnt.
